Christmas can cause craziness... Christ
Out of the 5 cs listed above, one is what really matters today, tomorrow, and every day there after.
Last night we “had Christmas” at my parents. It made me think of the reason for Christmas. We celebrate Christmas to remember the gift of love God gave us when He sent His Son Jesus to be the perfect sacrifice for our sins. We have heard the story many times. It’s one that includes angels, animals, angry world leaders, and a faithful couple. With all of that going on, it’s easy to see the similarity at our family Christmas.
My older brother and his wife have two kids under three years old. The presents were spread for all to open individually. This made me think of how Mary and Joseph individually received the message from God, and together they were faithful and able to enjoy those blessings. Also, how crazy it must of been for parking because my dad likes his cars.
Then, we get to a part of the story about which is typically never thought. There was a woman going into labor, tons of people back home for a certain thing that had been advertised, messengers were coming to share information, and shepherds were crashing the party. Wow! How close is this related to American Christmases? Babies are the show at Christmas. Even toddlers can be the life of the party sometimes. They open a box with something much smaller than the box in it, so it is filled with trash so the dinosaur doesn’t bounce around. Their response is, “a box of trash?” Next, Christmas is one of the biggest travel days of the year. We also have the hundreds of engagement, wedding, and birth announcements. And we top it off with that one crazy cousin who always ends up coming over but is never invited.
Then there’s politics. Hold it… Christmas is never a good place for political debates and the magi knew that 2,000 years ago (even though they rolled up maybe even a couple years later).
To sum it up: Christmas can be crazy. I hope yours isn’t too crazy so far, and that it remains that way tonight and tomorrow. Keep hoping that the joy you experience will be accompanied by peace and love.
