Gatorade Goes Bad; Water Stays Fresh

Tom Brady has spent nearly every minute of his life trying to make Gatorade come out of a cooler… I spent 20 minutes trying to put Water in it.

One of the worst things is to get home from a good run, only to realize the Gatorade in the fridge has soured. You could taste the sugary goodness on your lips over the duration of your run, longing in anticipation for your arrival, only to be extremely disappointed by the stale taste coming out of half-emptied bottle.

This past weekend, Coach Bill Belichick was drenched in Gatorade once again after leading his team to another Super Bowl championship. I think about the temporal nature of those baths. On Sunday, that was the most important celebration. It was the designation of a champion. However, how long will that feeling last? A couple of weeks, months, years?

This is where we loop full circle: Gatorade goes bad, but living water stays fresh. Striving for the taste of a Gatorade gulp and the act of a Gatorade bath will both eventually leave you longing for more, unsatisfied. Contrastingly, being fueled by the living water of Jesus will keep you satisfied for eternity.

John 3:37-39 — Come, all who are thirsty, and you will never thirst again.
