I love my job. Or maybe I should say, I LOVED, past tense, my job. As a bi-vocational pastor, there is a need for me to have outside employment to sustain my family financially. I work early mornings at one of the most elite athletic clubs in the area. The ability to befriend so many successful individuals from the community on the regular is just one of the major benefits. The only downfall to waking up at 3:23 in the morning is that you have to try to get to bed at least by 9 and maybe even a little prior to that. This feat wasn’t too difficult a couple of weeks ago. And then last Sunday happened. What used to be enjoyable became partially miserable when I laid down to go to sleep and the illuminating glow from the burning ball of fire was still visible in light of the recent “spring forward” event. This change over the course of a week took my enjoyment and forcefully slammed it onto the same bed where I am now located. Oh, how much power can be in the week.
We are currently in the middle of a giving series. When this happens, naturally you discuss the lady who gave it all. Her head was down, you’d consider her weak, but Jesus described her power and said that she should be the example for our financial giving. Oh, how much power can be in the weak.
I hope I can apply this to my life. I hope you can apply it to yours. As we approach the “2nd quarter” of 2016 let us not count this one in the “lost column” just yet. January 1 of next year will indeed be a new game. It’ll bring new challenges and new adventures, but there is still time in this one to turn it around and claim a victory. After all, there is much power in just a week. Let us be weak enough to have power this week.
